What does it mean?
B1785 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Occupant Classification Sensor Front LH Collision Detection .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on and the occupant classification system out of service
- Passenger airbag status indicator locked in one state
- Code will not clear with a scan tool and returns immediately
- Calibration or zeroing procedure refuses to complete
- Weight readings for that corner are stuck high, low or unrealistic
Likely causes
- A real collision or a sharp impact transmitted through the seat
- Someone kneeling or standing on the seat, or a heavy load dropped onto the cushion
- Seat lifted, dropped or leaned on by its cushion during removal, refitting or interior work
- Load cell deformed or its mounting bracket bent, so it now reads permanently over range
- Damaged or shorted sensor wiring producing a spike the module logs as an impact
- Seat rail or frame distorted, loading the front left corner mechanically
- Occupant classification module fault
How to fix it
- Read all restraint and occupant classification codes and check the event history and freeze frame data
- Ask about recent collisions, seat removal, cargo carried on the seat or anyone kneeling on it
- Remove all load from the seat and inspect the frame, rails and sensor brackets for bending or cracks
- Inspect the sensor wiring and connector for damage, chafe and corrosion that could cause a false spike
- Attempt the manufacturer's zero or calibration routine and note whether it is accepted
- If the latched event cannot be reset by the specified procedure, the affected sensor or seat frame assembly has to be replaced as the manufacturer directs
- After repair, recalibrate the system and verify correct classification with an empty seat and with a known load
