Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Split the circuit at the actuator to find out which side is at fault.

What does it mean?

B1828 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Trunk/Gate Release Control Circuit .

Symptoms

  • Trunk or tailgate will not open electrically and needs the key or the manual release
  • No click or movement from the release solenoid
  • Release works intermittently, often better in dry or warm weather
  • Fuse for the release circuit blows repeatedly
  • Code returns every time a release is commanded

Likely causes

  • Trunk or tailgate release solenoid open, seized or internally shorted
  • Broken conductor in the flexible loom between the body and the lid or gate
  • Corroded connector inside the trunk lid, where water often collects
  • Control wire shorted to ground or to battery voltage
  • Blown fuse or failed relay in the release circuit
  • Release latch mechanically jammed so the solenoid stalls and draws high current
  • Module output driver damaged by an earlier short

How to fix it

  1. Press the release and listen or feel for solenoid movement at the latch
  2. Check the fuse and, where fitted, swap the release relay with an identical one
  3. Measure the voltage at the actuator connector during a release command
  4. If voltage is present but nothing moves, test the solenoid resistance and replace it
  5. If no voltage arrives, check the module output and the wiring for an open or short
  6. Flex the loom between the body and the lid while operating the release
  7. Free or replace the latch if it is binding, then repair the harness or replace the actuator
