Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Test the actuator and the wire separately.

What does it mean?

B1834 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver Door Unlock Control Circuit Performance .

Symptoms

  • Driver door unlocks slowly, needs two attempts, or does not unlock at all
  • Other doors unlock normally while the driver door lags behind
  • Straining or buzzing sound from the driver door during unlock
  • Remote unlock leaves the driver door locked
  • Code sets each time the unlock function is used

Likely causes

  • Driver door lock actuator worn, drawing high current or partially seized
  • Dry or bent lock linkage adding mechanical load to the actuator
  • High resistance in the unlock output wire, often at a corroded terminal in the hinge boot
  • Water inside the driver door damaging the connector or the actuator motor
  • Broken conductor in the boot that only separates when the door is opened
  • Module output driver weakened by a previous short
  • Aftermarket locking module connected in parallel with the factory output

How to fix it

  1. Command unlock and feel the driver door actuator working through the trim
  2. Measure the current draw on the driver unlock output during a cycle
  3. Do a voltage drop test on the unlock wire while the actuator is running
  4. Unplug the actuator and power it with a fused jumper lead to judge its condition
  5. Inspect and flex the hinge boot loom while operating the lock
  6. Lubricate or repair the lock linkage if it binds
  7. Replace the driver door lock actuator, repair the harness, and consider the module last
