What does it mean?
B1844 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Seat Slide Switch Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Seat will not slide forward or backward, while height and recline still work
- Slide works in one direction only
- Seat slides on its own without any input
- Memory recall stops because the fore and aft axis will not move
- No motor noise from the slide motor when the switch is used
Likely causes
- Slide switch contacts worn, since this is the most used seat function
- Open or short in the slide signal wire under the seat
- Under-seat harness stretched or crushed by the rails at the ends of travel
- Debris or spilled liquid inside the seat switch pack
- Loose under-seat connector after floor cleaning or seat removal
- Weak power or ground at the seat control module
- Module input stage failure
How to fix it
- Operate the slide switch in both directions while watching live data
- Unplug the switch pack and measure the contact resistance in each position
- Run the seat fully forward and fully back and inspect the harness for pinching and stretching
- Back-probe the module input pin and look for the voltage change when the switch is pressed
- Check the seat module fuse, supply voltage and ground with a voltage drop test
- Replace the seat switch pack if the contacts are open, noisy or erratic
- Replace the seat module last, then relearn the memory positions
