Throttle Position Input Out of Range Low

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Confirm what the code actually means on this make and model first, then work outwards from the wiring.

What does it mean?

B2105 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Run/Start Control Circuit High .

Symptoms

  • Warning lamp or a text message in the instrument cluster instead of a MIL (check engine lamp)
  • Cruise control, adjustable pedals or throttle related comfort functions stop responding
  • Intermittent hard start or no crank when the ignition run/start reading is the faulty one
  • Accessories drop out or reset while the engine is cranking
  • Fault returns after clearing, often only over rough roads or in wet weather
  • Module stays awake after lock up, leading to a flat battery overnight

Likely causes

  • Break or open circuit in the signal wire between the sensor or switch and the module
  • Signal wire shorted to ground, which pulls the reported value to the bottom of the range
  • Missing or low 5V reference, or a high resistance sensor ground feeding the position sensor
  • Water intrusion, green corrosion or spread terminals in the module or sensor connector
  • Worn contacts inside the ignition switch, so the run/start feed is not seen at the expected level
  • A relay stuck closed or a failed blocking diode backfeeding voltage into the monitored circuit
  • High resistance on the module ground, which shifts every input the module measures
  • Internal input stage failure inside the body control module (least likely)

How to fix it

  1. Look up the manufacturer definition and the module pin assignment before disturbing anything
  2. Record freeze frame data and check for companion codes in the same group, they usually share one circuit
  3. Inspect the module and sensor connectors for water, corrosion, pushed out or spread terminals
  4. Backprobe the signal pin with a meter, key on, and compare the reading against the scan tool value
  5. Verify the 5V reference and the sensor ground at the sensor connector while the sensor is still connected and loaded
  6. Unplug the sensor or switch: if the circuit does not rise toward reference voltage, the harness is shorted to ground
  7. Wiggle test the harness along its full route while watching live data
  8. Repair the harness, connector or switch, then clear the code and confirm the value stays in range through a full key cycle
