Rear Doppler Sensor Circuit Failure

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Start at the sensor connector, this circuit rarely fails at the module end.

What does it mean?

B2156 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver's MPCS Unit Lost Communication with MICU (MIRRORSW Message) .

Symptoms

  • Interior intrusion sensing does not work, the alarm no longer detects movement inside the car
  • Alarm triggers for no reason, especially when parked
  • Alarm refuses to arm fully or arms only in a reduced mode
  • Alarm indicator LED flashes a different pattern than normal
  • Warning message about the alarm system in the display
  • Code returns after clearing, sometimes only in damp weather

Likely causes

  • Sensor connector loose or not fully latched, often after headliner or trim work
  • Wiring damaged when the headliner, C pillar trim or rear trim was removed
  • Corroded terminals after moisture entered through a sunroof drain or rear seal
  • Sensor covered, obstructed or knocked out of position by luggage or a roof mounted accessory
  • Sensor failed internally and no longer reports to the module
  • Open circuit, short to ground or short to battery on the sensor supply or signal wire
  • Poor module ground affecting the sensor reference
  • Aftermarket alarm interfering with or spliced into the factory sensor circuit

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the manufacturer definition and where the rear sensor is mounted on this vehicle
  2. Read the sensor status in live data and trigger it by hand to see whether it responds at all
  3. Unplug and inspect the sensor connector for corrosion, bent pins and a proper lock
  4. Check the loom in the headliner and rear pillar for pinch damage and staples from previous work
  5. Measure supply voltage, ground and the signal line at the sensor connector
  6. Swap the front and rear sensors if they are identical, a fault that follows the sensor confirms the sensor
  7. Check for and disconnect any aftermarket alarm wired into the same circuit
  8. Repair the wiring or replace the sensor, then arm the alarm and confirm interior sensing works and no false triggers occur
