Passenger Mirror Horizontal / Vertical Feedback Potentiometer Circuit Open

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Confirm the code at the memory module and check whether the driver side potentiometer codes are also set, which would point to a shared circuit

What does it mean?

B2355 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver Seat Front Vertical Position Sensor Circuit .

Symptoms

  • The passenger mirror never returns to its stored position when a memory button or the key fob is used
  • The mirror still moves on the switch but the module never learns where it is
  • Seat and steering column memory functions work while only the mirror is left out
  • Memory recall starts and then aborts part way through
  • Repeated failed attempts when trying to store a new memory position

Likely causes

  • Open winding or a worn wiper track inside the passenger mirror position potentiometer
  • Mirror connector unplugged or only partly seated behind the mirror glass housing
  • Broken conductor in the door harness at the hinge boot where the loom flexes
  • Corrosion inside the mirror connector after broken glass or a failed seal let water in
  • Mirror actuator assembly damaged by an impact or by forcing the glass by hand
  • Open sensor ground or open reference feed shared with the potentiometer
  • Bent or backed out terminal at the memory module pin that carries the feedback signal

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the code at the memory module and check whether the driver side potentiometer codes are also set, which would point to a shared circuit
  2. With the mirror connected, watch the horizontal and vertical position values in live data while driving the mirror with the switch
  3. A value frozen at one end of the scale that never changes confirms the input is open
  4. Unplug the mirror and measure resistance across the potentiometer terminals, then move the mirror and look for a smooth sweep with no dropouts
  5. Check the reference and ground legs at the mirror connector before condemning the sensor
  6. Carry out a wiggle test on the harness inside the door boot with the meter connected to catch an intermittent break
  7. Replace the mirror actuator assembly when the potentiometer is internally open, then relearn the memory positions
