Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Try to communicate with the front left door module using a scan tool and note whether it responds at all

What does it mean?

B2598 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Door Module Front Left .

Symptoms

  • Driver door window, mirror or lock switches do not work, or work only sometimes
  • The other windows cannot be operated from the driver's master switch panel
  • Mirror adjustment and mirror folding are lost on one or both sides
  • Door lock does not respond to the interior switch while the key remote still works
  • Interior lighting or door-ajar indication behaves inconsistently
  • Scan tool reports no communication with the driver door module

Likely causes

  • Water reaching the module through a torn or badly refitted vapour barrier, a very common cause of door module failure
  • Corroded pins in the door connector or in the flexible harness passing through the door boot
  • Broken bus or supply wire in the door boot after years of opening and closing
  • Loss of power or ground to the module from a blown fuse or a corroded ground point
  • Bus communication fault so the body module cannot reach the door module
  • Low system voltage or a weak battery producing intermittent module dropouts
  • Internal failure of the driver door module itself

How to fix it

  1. Try to communicate with the front left door module using a scan tool and note whether it responds at all
  2. Check the fuses that supply the driver door module before suspecting the module itself
  3. Remove the door trim, pull back the vapour barrier and look for water tracks, wet foam and corroded connectors
  4. Measure supply voltage and ground at the module connector with the door closed and again while opening it
  5. Inspect and flex the harness in the door boot, checking continuity of the power, ground and bus wires
  6. Repair corroded terminals or broken conductors, then reseal the vapour barrier so water cannot return
  7. Replace the door module only after power, ground and bus wiring have all been proven good, and configure it as required
