What does it mean?
B3061 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Manufacturer-Specific Body ECU Fault .
Symptoms
- Engine cranks but does not start, or starts and stalls almost immediately
- Immobiliser or key symbol flashes or stays lit in the instrument cluster
- Central locking works from the remote but the engine still will not run
- A spare key starts the vehicle while the usual key does not, or the reverse
- Starting works only after several attempts or after removing other keys from the ring
- Message on the display stating the key is not recognised
Likely causes
- Key transponder not recognised because the key was never programmed to this vehicle
- Damaged or worn transponder chip in the key, often after the key has been dropped or gone through a wash
- Weak or dead key battery on systems where the key must be actively read
- Faulty antenna ring or reader coil around the ignition lock or in the start button area
- Broken or corroded wiring between the antenna and the immobiliser or body module
- Interference from another transponder, a second key or a metal object on the same keyring
- Immobiliser or body module that has lost its stored key data after a programming or voltage problem
How to fix it
- Try the spare key first; if it starts normally the fault is in the original key rather than the vehicle
- Take other keys, tags and metal objects off the keyring and retry, since they can block the transponder
- Read the immobiliser data with a scan tool and check how many keys are stored and whether the key is being detected at all
- Fit a fresh key battery on systems where the key is powered
- Inspect the antenna ring around the ignition lock and its connector for damage and corrosion
- Check power, ground and wiring to the immobiliser or body module before programming anything
- Have the key programmed or the module key data restored using the correct procedure, then verify starting with every key the customer owns
