What does it mean?
C1095 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: ABS Hydraulic Pump Motor Circuit Short to Ground . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- ABS and stability control lamps on, with normal service brakes still working
- No ABS pump noise during the self test after start up
- Wheels lock up under hard braking because ABS regulation is switched off
- ABS or brake system fuse blows as soon as the pump is commanded
- Burning smell or a hot relay in the engine bay fuse box
- Traction control, hill start assist and stability control disabled
Likely causes
- Pump motor supply or control wire chafed through and touching the body or a bracket
- Water and corrosion inside the hydraulic control unit connector bridging a pin to ground
- Shorted winding inside the ABS pump motor itself
- Pump relay with internally shorted contacts or a shorted coil
- Harness damaged during suspension, engine or brake line work near the modulator
- Failed motor driver stage inside the ABS control module
How to fix it
- Check the high current ABS fuse or fusible link and inspect the relay socket for heat damage
- Unplug the pump motor connector and measure resistance from each pin to a clean ground
- Inspect the harness where it leaves the hydraulic unit and runs along the inner wing for chafing
- Open the connector and look for water, salt and green corrosion, then clean and seal it
- Command the pump with the scan tool and watch current draw or listen for the motor
- Repair the damaged harness section, or replace the pump motor or hydraulic unit if the short is internal
- Programme and bleed the system with the scan tool after any hydraulic unit replacement
