What does it mean?
C1239 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Description not available . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- Brake warning lamp behaving abnormally, either never lighting during the bulb check or staying on
- No warning would be given if one brake circuit actually lost pressure, which is the safety risk here
- ABS or stability warning lamp on alongside
- Fault present at every key-on without driving
- Live data showing the switch state stuck in one position regardless of pedal pressure
Likely causes
- Connector unplugged, cracked or corroded at the pressure differential switch
- Broken or chafed wire between the switch and the control module
- Switch failed internally with its contacts permanently open
- Corroded terminal or a poor ground return at the switch
- Harness damaged during master cylinder, brake pipe or engine bay work
- Module input circuit failure as a final possibility
How to fix it
- Locate the differential pressure switch, usually on the master cylinder or the brake distribution block, and check its connector
- Inspect the terminals for corrosion, spread pins and a loose fit, and confirm the plug is latched
- Watch the switch state on live data while an assistant applies firm pedal pressure
- Jumper the input at the connector to see whether the module registers the change; if it does, the switch or its wiring is at fault
- Check continuity of the signal wire and the ground return back to the module
- Check brake fluid level and both circuits for a real pressure imbalance before dismissing the warning
- Repair the open wiring or replace the switch, then confirm normal lamp operation
