What does it mean?
C1250 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Brake Pedal Travel Sensor Circuit Failure . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- Brake, ABS and stability warning lamps on
- Pedal effort or travel feels inconsistent, and brake assist no longer helps in a hard stop
- On hybrid and electric vehicles, regenerative braking is reduced and the pedal feel changes noticeably
- Hill-hold, auto hold and adaptive cruise braking unavailable
- Pedal position value on the scan tool stuck, jumping or not matching actual pedal movement
- Fault returns each time the brake is applied
Likely causes
- Sensor worn internally, giving a dead spot or an erratic value through part of the pedal travel
- Open or shorted signal wire, or a missing reference voltage from the module
- Poor sensor ground or a high resistance in the ground circuit
- Corroded or partly unplugged connector in the pedal box area
- Sensor bracket bent or the pedal linkage distorted after a repair, so the sensor is out of its range
- Zero position not learned after fitting a new sensor, pedal assembly or module
- Module input circuit failure
How to fix it
- Read the pedal travel value with the pedal released and again at full travel, and check the change is smooth and complete
- Press the pedal slowly and watch for a dropout or a flat spot in the middle of the range
- Measure the reference voltage and ground at the sensor connector with the key on
- Inspect the connector and the harness in the pedal box for corrosion, chafe and trapped sections
- Check the sensor bracket, pushrod and pedal linkage for distortion and correct fitment
- Carry out the pedal position zero learn procedure with the scan tool
- Replace the sensor, or the pedal assembly where it is not serviced separately, then relearn and verify
