What does it mean?
C1730 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Combined Sensor .
Symptoms
- Stability, traction and ABS warning lamps lit together
- Stability control switched off, most noticeable on wet or slippery roads
- Hill start assist, trailer stability and similar functions unavailable
- Occasional false stability intervention or a brief brake application while driving straight
- The code returns after a short drive even when it is cleared
Likely causes
- Internal failure of the combined sensor element itself
- Zero point/calibration never learned after the sensor, the module or the suspension geometry was changed
- Loose mounting bolts or a cracked bracket letting the sensor pick up body vibration as movement
- Open circuit, poor contact or high resistance on the sensor supply, ground or data line
- Water intrusion at the connector, which is usually located under the console, carpet or a seat
- Low or unstable battery voltage corrupting the sensor output
- Fault inside the ABS/ESP module that evaluates the sensor signal
How to fix it
- With the vehicle standing still and level, read the yaw rate and lateral/longitudinal acceleration values; they should sit near zero
- Drive slowly through a turn and watch whether the values change smoothly or stay frozen
- Check the mounting: the sensor must be tight, on an undamaged bracket and at the correct angle
- Inspect the connector for corrosion and confirm supply voltage and ground quality
- Verify the data line between the sensor and the ABS/ESP module
- Run the sensor zero point / calibration routine on level ground
- Replace the combined sensor if the values stay out of range or frozen with a good circuit, then recalibrate and road test
