What does it mean?
C1947 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Seat Track Position Switch Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- SRS/airbag warning lamp on continuously
- Airbag deployment strategy defaults because the seat position input is not trusted
- Fault appearing after seat removal, carpet cleaning or a water leak
- Code that changes state as the seat is slid forwards and backwards
- Other restraint codes stored at the same time
Likely causes
- Wire under the seat chafed against the seat frame, rail or floor pan
- Harness crushed by the seat rail or a mounting bolt during a seat refit
- Water, coolant or a spilled drink soaking the connector and creating a path to ground
- Switch shorted internally after mechanical damage or contamination
- Incorrect repair splice or a terminal pushed out and touching the seat structure
- Carpet fastener, trim clip or aftermarket accessory screw driven through the loom
- Failed input circuit in the restraint control module holding the line low
How to fix it
- Disconnect the battery and observe the specified waiting time before working on any restraint circuit
- Unplug the switch and measure the circuit to ground: if it is still shorted, the fault is in the harness
- Inspect the loom under the seat along the rails, at bolt holes and where it crosses the floor pan
- Look for damp carpet, water staining and corroded terminals under the seat
- Repair the damaged section with the specified restraint repair leads and re-route it clear of the rails
- Replace the switch/sensor if the short is inside the switch itself
- Reconnect, clear the codes and confirm the SRS lamp completes its self test and goes out
