What does it mean?
C1963 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: SAS Control Module (Yaw Rate Sensor Part) Initial Point Correction Error .
Symptoms
- Stability control and ABS warning lamps on
- Stability and traction control disabled, with a message that the system is off
- Steering or stability symbol shown in the cluster after a repair
- Occasional false brake intervention or a pull when cornering
- The fault returns immediately after clearing unless a proper calibration is completed
Likely causes
- Initial point correction never carried out, or aborted, after replacing the module, the sensor or working on the suspension
- Calibration attempted with the vehicle not level, not fully stationary or with the steering not centred
- Vehicle disturbed during the routine: a door closed, someone got in, or the engine speed changed
- Module or sensor mounting bolts loose, or the bracket distorted, so a stable reference cannot be stored
- Ride height changed by a heavy load, modified springs or a badly worn suspension, shifting the sensor plane
- Internal fault in the yaw rate section of the module
- Battery voltage too low or a communication dropout interrupting the routine
- Steering angle sensor not calibrated first when the procedure requires that order
How to fix it
- Park on level ground with the wheels straight, the vehicle unloaded, the engine running and nobody moving inside
- Confirm the battery voltage is high enough to support the routine without dropping out
- Calibrate the steering angle sensor first if the procedure calls for it
- Run the yaw rate initial point correction and do not disturb the vehicle until it completes
- If the routine fails, check the module and sensor mounting bolts and the condition of the bracket
- Inspect the connector and verify the power supply, ground and network communication
- Replace the SAS control module if calibration still fails with good mounting and supply, then calibrate again and road test
