What does it mean?
P1232 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Injection Control Circuit Commanded State to Actual State Mismatch .
Symptoms
- Check engine lamp on, usually with other fuel or injection codes stored
- Intermittent stalling, sometimes with a normal restart minutes later
- Extended cranking, and occasional no-start
- Misfire, hesitation and rough running under load
- Reduced power and limp mode on some vehicles
Likely causes
- High resistance in the control circuit from a corroded joint, an old repair splice or a loose terminal
- Relay or solenoid contacts that stick or fail to close reliably
- Chafed wire causing an intermittent short to ground or to battery
- Weak or unstable supply voltage, so the circuit cannot reach the commanded level
- Poor module or component ground shifting the feedback voltage
- Component winding open or out of specification
- Module output or feedback stage failure
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame and note whether the mismatch appeared cold, hot, at idle or on load
- Confirm battery and charging voltage, and check the main and component grounds
- Command the circuit with the scan tool and watch the feedback value while the component operates
- Perform voltage drop tests along the control circuit while it is energised
- Wiggle-test the harness and connectors during an active command to catch an intermittent break
- Measure the component winding resistance and compare it with specification
- Repair the circuit or replace the failed component, then confirm command and feedback agree on a road test
- Consider a module fault only when everything external tests correct
