What does it mean?
P1372 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Crankshaft Position Sensor A-B Correlation .
Symptoms
- MIL on, sometimes with other crank or cam codes
- Long cranking before the engine fires
- Intermittent stalling, the engine cuts out then restarts
- Rough idle and a misfire feel under acceleration
- Unstable tachometer reading
- Reduced power or limp mode
Likely causes
- One of the two crank sensors producing a weak or drifting signal
- Cracked, contaminated or damaged teeth on the crank trigger wheel
- Sensor not fully seated or an incorrect air gap
- Open circuit, short to ground or damaged shielding in one of the two sensor circuits
- Poor shared ground or an unstable 5 volt reference feeding both sensors
- Stretched timing chain or excessive crankshaft end play altering signal timing
- Control module calibration mismatch after a module replacement
How to fix it
- Read both crank signals in live data and compare the engine speed each one reports
- Inspect both sensors and their harness routing for oil contamination, heat damage and chafing
- Measure supply, ground and signal at each sensor connector
- Scope both signals together and look for dropouts or a phase shift between them
- Inspect the trigger wheel through the sensor bore for missing or damaged teeth
- Check cam to crank correlation and timing chain slack
- Replace the deviating sensor, clear the code and confirm with a road test
