What does it mean?
P1422 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Secondary Air Injector Valve Circuit Short to B+ .
Symptoms
- MIL on and the secondary air readiness monitor stays incomplete
- Valve stuck open or stuck closed depending on its design, so air injection timing is wrong
- Elevated cold start emissions and possible test failure
- Rough idle right after start up
- No response when the valve is commanded with a scan tool
Likely causes
- Control wire chafed against a permanently live circuit inside the harness
- Corrosion or moisture bridging the control pin to a supply pin inside the connector
- Solenoid winding internally shorted to its own supply terminal
- Harness pinched between components after service work, contacting a battery feed
- Incorrect wiring repair that connected the control line to an ignition or battery source
- Damaged connector seals that allowed water and salt to track between pins
- PCM output driver failed in the high state, only after wiring checks are clean
How to fix it
- Disconnect the valve and, with the key on, check for battery voltage on the control pin; voltage there with the PCM unplugged proves a short to power
- Inspect the connector for moisture, corrosion and damaged seals, drying and cleaning it before retesting
- Measure continuity between the solenoid control terminal and its supply terminal to find an internal short
- Check the harness for pinched or melted sections where it runs alongside power feeds
- Review any recent electrical repairs in the area for incorrect splices
- Repair or replace the damaged harness section and restore proper routing
- Replace the valve if internally shorted, then verify operation with a commanded test and a cold start run
