What does it mean?
P1727 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Transmission Coast Clutch Solenoid Slip Malfunction .
Symptoms
- No engine braking when lifting off the pedal, the vehicle keeps rolling freely
- Engine RPM flares on deceleration or during a downshift
- Harsh or slipping shifts, especially in the higher gears
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a transmission warning
- Limp mode after repeated slip events, plus a hot or burnt fluid smell
Likely causes
- Worn or glazed coast clutch friction plates that no longer hold torque
- Coast clutch solenoid stuck, leaking internally or clogged by varnish
- Low line pressure from a low fluid level, worn pump or a leaking circuit
- Contaminated ATF and a blocked filter starving the clutch apply circuit
- Open, shorted or high resistance wiring in the coast clutch solenoid circuit
- Worn valve body bore or a sticking valve bleeding off apply pressure
- Hardened piston seals in the coast clutch drum letting pressure escape
How to fix it
- Check ATF level, colour and smell first, since low or burnt fluid explains most slip codes
- Watch commanded gear against calculated gear ratio on live data during a road test
- Command the coast clutch solenoid on and off with a scan tool and listen for a click
- Measure solenoid resistance at the case connector and check the circuit for opens and shorts
- Fit a pressure gauge and compare line pressure with the specification at idle and under load
- Drop the pan, inspect the filter and solenoid screens for debris and clutch material
- Replace the solenoid if it fails testing, and overhaul the clutch pack when friction material is worn
