What does it mean?
P1910 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Reverse Lamp Control Circuit/Open .
Symptoms
- One or both reverse lamps do not light when Reverse is selected
- A warning message about the reverse lights, and the malfunction indicator lamp on some vehicles
- Very poor visibility when reversing at night
- Rear-view camera image is dark because the reverse lamps are not illuminating the area
- Rear parking sensors or the camera may still work normally, isolating the fault to the lamp circuit
- Fault can be intermittent when the tailgate harness is flexed
Likely causes
- Burnt reverse bulbs, or bulb sockets corroded until the contact is lost
- Blown fuse in the reverse lamp supply
- Broken wire in the reverse lamp control circuit, often where the harness crosses into the tailgate or boot lid
- Corroded rear lamp connector after water entered the housing
- Failed reverse lamp relay where one is fitted
- Range switch not reporting Reverse so the circuit is never energised
- Failed output driver in the control module
How to fix it
- Check the reverse bulbs and their sockets first, looking for burnt filaments and green corrosion
- Check the fuse and, where fitted, the reverse lamp relay
- Verify in live data that the range switch reports Reverse when the lever is in R
- With Reverse selected, measure voltage at the lamp socket and check the ground side with a voltage-drop test
- Back-probe the module output to confirm whether the module is commanding the circuit
- Flex the tailgate or boot lid harness while watching the lamps to find a broken conductor
- Repair the open circuit or replace the corroded socket; consider the module only after the wiring is proven good
