What does it mean?
U1000 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: DIS Head Unit ECM Error .
Symptoms
- Screen stays black, freezes or restarts by itself
- No sound from the speakers, or audio that cuts in and out
- Steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth pairing and hands-free calling stop working
- Scan tool cannot establish communication with the display or audio module
- Radio presets, clock and user settings reset every time the ignition is switched off
- Warning message on the cluster about the entertainment or display system
Likely causes
- Internal processor or memory fault inside the head unit
- Interrupted or corrupted software update left the unit in a faulty state
- Unstable supply voltage or a weak battery, especially the voltage dip during cranking
- Poor or corroded ground behind the dash serving the head unit
- Loose, bent or backed-out pins in the multi-way connector at the rear of the unit
- Damaged communication wiring between the head unit and the amplifier or tuner
- Water intrusion into the centre console reaching the unit or its connectors
How to fix it
- Test the battery state of charge and the charging system first; audio networks are very sensitive to low voltage
- Read stored codes from every module on the audio network, since a failing amplifier or tuner can force the head unit to log an internal error
- Reseat the head unit connectors and inspect the pins for spreading, corrosion and push-back
- Measure the power feeds and the ground at the head unit with the ignition on, and do a voltage drop test on the ground
- Carry out a full power-down reset by isolating the battery for the specified time, then recheck
- Check whether an updated software release exists for the unit before condemning the hardware
- Inspect the console area for water ingress, dry and reseal any wet connector
- Replace or overhaul the head unit only after power, ground, network wiring and software have all been verified
