What does it mean?
U1130 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Data Circuit Message .
Symptoms
- Long cranking, no start, or the engine starting and then stalling
- Sudden loss of power or stalling while driving, often followed by a normal restart
- MIL (check engine lamp) illuminated with fuel system related codes stored as well
- The fuel pump not audible when the ignition is switched on
- Fuel gauge or fuel system live data missing or clearly wrong
- Symptoms worse after rain or a car wash when the underbody connector is wet
Likely causes
- Corroded or water damaged connector at the fuel pump control module, which is often mounted under the vehicle or near the rear axle
- Open or shorted wire in the data circuit between the powertrain control module and the fuel pump control module
- Blown fuse or a failed relay in the fuel pump control circuit
- Poor ground for the fuel pump control module, frequently a rusty body ground stud
- Internal failure of the fuel pump control module
- Damaged harness above the fuel tank or along the frame rail
- Powertrain control module fault or corrupted software
How to fix it
- Check the fuel pump control module connector for corrosion, green pins and moisture, and clean or replace damaged terminals
- Verify the fuse, relay, battery feed and ground at the module while the circuit is loaded
- Listen for fuel pump prime with the ignition on and measure fuel pressure to see whether the pump is actually being commanded
- Test the data circuit between the powertrain control module and the fuel pump control module for continuity, short to ground and short to battery
- Inspect the harness above the tank and along the frame for chafing and rodent damage
- Wiggle test the connectors while watching live data or trying to reproduce the stall
- Replace the fuel pump control module only after wiring, ground and supply have been proven, then confirm normal fuel pressure on a road test
