What does it mean?

U2195 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Data Circuit Message .

Symptoms

  • Steering wheel controls, indicators, wipers or cruise switches stop working
  • Steering column lock will not release or will not engage on equipped vehicles
  • No-start condition on vehicles with an electric column lock
  • Warning lamps and messages on the instrument cluster
  • Horn or steering wheel buttons work only intermittently
  • Scan tool cannot reach the column module

Likely causes

  • Loose or corroded connector at the steering column module
  • Wiring damaged in the column area or in the clock spring circuit after steering wheel or airbag work
  • Column module without proper power feed or ground
  • Break in the bus wiring between the column module and the receiving module
  • Column module replaced without being configured to the vehicle
  • Water running down the column from a windscreen or bulkhead leak
  • Internal failure of the steering column module

How to fix it

  1. Read all modules and check whether the column module answers
  2. Watch the live data from the column switches while operating each one in turn
  3. Remove the lower column shroud and inspect the connectors and the clock spring wiring
  4. Measure supply voltage and ground at the column module
  5. Test bus continuity between the column module and the gateway or body module
  6. Check for water tracking down the column and fix the leak first
  7. Configure the module after replacement; replace only once wiring and supply are proven good
