What does it mean?
B1296 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Front Light ECU Communication Stop .
Symptoms
- Headlamps, daytime running lamps or headlamp levelling stop working or stay in a default state
- Lighting warning message; adaptive front lighting is disabled
- Scan tool reports no communication with the front lighting module
- Other modules store companion communication codes
- Levelling and cornering lamp motors do not respond
Likely causes
- Blown fuse or an interrupted power feed to the front lighting control module
- Corroded or loose module ground, a very common cause in the engine bay area
- Module connector unplugged, wet or corroded
- Open in the bus wire between the front lighting module and the gateway or body module
- Internal failure of the front lighting control unit, often after water ingress
- Damage from a front-end impact or from bumper and headlamp removal
- Module replaced but never coded and configured to the vehicle
How to fix it
- Scan the whole vehicle and note every module that reports lost communication with this node
- Check the lighting module fuses, then measure supply voltage and ground at its connector
- Clean and retighten the module ground point, corroded grounds are a frequent cause here
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion and backed-out terminals
- Check continuity of the bus lines from the module to the gateway
- Replace the front lighting control unit if power, ground and bus are all proven correct, then code it to the vehicle
- Clear codes and confirm the module responds and all lighting functions are restored
