What does it mean?
B1513 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Instrument Panel Cluster Voltage Low Input .
Symptoms
- Gauges drop out, sweep or read zero while driving
- Backlighting dims or flickers, especially at idle or with heavy loads switched on
- Several warning lamps illuminate together for no obvious reason
- Slow cranking or a no-start after the car has stood overnight
- Other modules store their own low voltage codes at the same time
Likely causes
- Weak, discharged or failing battery, especially in cold weather
- Charging system fault: worn alternator, slipping or glazed drive belt, or a failed regulator
- Loose, corroded or sulphated battery terminals and cable ends
- Voltage drop in the cluster feed through a corroded fuse box terminal or a worn ignition switch
- Poor cluster ground point, corroded behind the dash or loosened during previous work
- Heavy parasitic drain flattening the battery overnight
- Internal supply fault inside the instrument cluster itself
How to fix it
- Load test the battery and check its state of charge before looking at anything else
- Measure charging voltage at the battery at idle and at raised engine speed, with and without electrical loads
- Clean and retighten the battery terminals, main earth strap and the alternator output cable
- Perform a voltage drop test along the cluster feed and its ground while the circuit is loaded
- Inspect the fuse box terminals and the ignition switch feed for heat damage and corrosion
- Wiggle the cluster connector while watching voltage on a meter to find an intermittent joint
- Carry out a parasitic drain test if the battery keeps going flat, and replace the cluster only as a last step
