What does it mean?
B1839 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger Doors Unlock Control Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- Passenger doors do not unlock electrically while the driver door still works
- Fuse blows when the unlock button is pressed
- Actuator hums but the lock does not move
- Unlocking only possible from the inside handle or the key blade
- Code returns every time an unlock command is sent
Likely causes
- Unlock output wire shorted to ground between the module and the doors
- Passenger lock actuator motor shorted internally
- Water inside a passenger door connector bridging the output to ground
- Harness chafed inside the passenger door hinge boot
- Aftermarket alarm or central locking spliced into the unlock output
- Module output driver shorted internally
- Damaged terminal pushing against the metal connector shell
How to fix it
- Disconnect the passenger lock actuators one by one and retest the output
- Ohm the unlock wire to ground with the module and the actuators unplugged
- Flex the loom inside the hinge boot while measuring, to catch an intermittent short
- Check for water in the doors and repair the vapour barrier and drain holes
- Disconnect any aftermarket locking wiring and retest
- Power a suspect actuator with a fused jumper lead to confirm whether it is shorted
- Replace the shorted actuator or repair the harness, and only then replace the module
