What does it mean?

B1854 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver Window Control Circuit Low .

Symptoms

  • Driver window will not move, or moves in one direction only
  • Motor hums or clicks without the glass moving
  • Window fuse blows when the switch is pressed
  • Auto up and auto down features are lost
  • Burning smell or warm door trim in a severe short

Likely causes

  • Control wire to the driver window motor shorted to ground
  • Window motor shorted internally after worn brushes or a burnt armature
  • Water inside the door reaching the motor connector or the wiring
  • Harness chafed inside the door hinge boot where it flexes
  • Regulator binding so the motor stalls and drags the circuit down
  • Module output driver shorted internally
  • Aftermarket window module or one-touch kit wired into the same output

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the window motor and check whether the output reading returns to normal
  2. Ohm the control wire to ground with the motor and the module both disconnected
  3. Flex the loom inside the hinge boot while measuring to catch an intermittent short
  4. Inspect the door for water, a torn vapour barrier and blocked drain holes
  5. Power the motor directly with a fused jumper lead to judge its condition
  6. Check the regulator and run channels for binding and lubricate them
  7. Replace the motor or regulator, repair the harness, and relearn the auto window function
