What does it mean?

B1892 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Liftgate Control Circuit 2 High .

Symptoms

  • Power liftgate operates in one direction only or refuses to run
  • Audible warning and flashing lamp when power operation is attempted
  • Gate stops partway and must be finished manually
  • Fault may only appear when the gate is in a certain position, as the conduit flexes
  • Occasional operation after a reset, then the same failure

Likely causes

  • Control wire shorted to a battery feed inside the tailgate or in the hinge conduit
  • Water bridging pins in the spindle drive or module connector
  • Open circuit or high resistance on the return side, letting the output float high
  • Failed spindle drive motor with an internally open winding
  • Corroded terminals raising circuit resistance so the module measures high
  • Module output driver failed in the open or shorted to supply condition
  • Incorrect wiring after a used gate, motor or module was fitted

How to fix it

  1. Check the battery and the drive circuit fuse first, then read the module codes
  2. Watch the module output states in live data while commanding the gate to move
  3. Unplug the spindle drive and check whether the control wire has voltage when it should not, which confirms a short to power
  4. With the connector off, check the motor windings for an open circuit and compare both control paths
  5. Inspect the hinge conduit and flex the loom while measuring to expose a break or a short
  6. Repair the harness with proper terminals and secure it clear of sharp edges inside the gate
  7. Replace the liftgate control module only after wiring and motor have been verified
