Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

What does it mean?

B1893 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Power Liftgate Control Circuit 2 Open .

Symptoms

  • Power liftgate is completely inoperative in the affected direction
  • Motor makes no sound at all when operation is requested, only the warning beeps
  • Gate has to be opened and closed manually every time
  • Fault may be intermittent at first, working only when the gate is at a certain angle
  • Related liftgate codes may set at the same time

Likely causes

  • Broken conductor in the harness that flexes through the liftgate hinge conduit, the most common failure on power gates
  • Connector at the spindle drive unplugged or not latched after body or trim work
  • Open motor winding inside the spindle drive unit
  • Blown fuse or open feed to the drive circuit
  • Corroded or backed out terminal in the module or motor connector
  • Wiring cut during accessory installation in the tailgate
  • Liftgate control module output driver failed open

How to fix it

  1. Check the fuse feeding the liftgate drive circuit before doing anything else
  2. Read the codes and note which drive output is open
  3. Confirm the spindle drive connector is fully seated and locked, since it is often left off after trim removal
  4. Measure continuity of each control wire from the module connector to the motor connector
  5. Open the hinge conduit and flex the harness while measuring, because broken strands inside intact insulation are typical here
  6. Repair the harness with correct terminals and a proper protective sleeve inside the conduit
  7. Replace the module last, only when wiring and motor have both tested good
