Can I keep driving?

Avoid extended driving; visit a service soon.

First step

Follow air bag safety procedure: ignition off, battery disconnected and the specified stand time completed before touching any restraint connector

What does it mean?

B1907 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Front sensor signal fault .

Symptoms

  • Air bag warning lamp on and stays lit with the engine running
  • Front air bags and pretensioners disabled while the fault is present, so they may not deploy in a collision
  • Fault often appears shortly after minor front end damage or after front end repair work
  • Warning message about the restraint system on the driver display
  • Code may be intermittent, coming back over rough roads

Likely causes

  • Front impact sensor damaged by a minor front end knock, kerb strike or road debris
  • Sensor mounting bolt loose or the bracket bent, so the sensor cannot read deceleration correctly
  • Corroded connector at the sensor, which sits in a wet area behind the bumper or on the radiator support
  • Harness chafed or pulled where it runs across the front panel or through a grommet
  • Water intrusion into the connector after a washer bottle leak or driving through standing water
  • Sensor replaced with a wrong part number or a previously deployed unit
  • Restraint control module internal fault or a poor module ground

How to fix it

  1. Follow air bag safety procedure: ignition off, battery disconnected and the specified stand time completed before touching any restraint connector
  2. Read all restraint codes with freeze frame and ask about any recent front end impact or repair
  3. Inspect both front impact sensors and their brackets for cracks, bending, corrosion and impact marks
  4. Check the mounting bolts are present and tightened to specification, as a loose sensor cannot report correctly
  5. Unplug the sensor connector and check for water, corrosion, bent pins and a properly engaged lock
  6. Compare the two front sensors in scan tool data where the system provides sensor status
  7. Consider the restraint control module last, after wiring, ground and sensor mounting have all been verified
