What does it mean?
B2148 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Run Control 2 Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- The function driven by that signal stops working, for example interior lighting dimming or a fan speed request
- The function works intermittently or jumps between settings
- Warning message in the driver information display
- Related communication or circuit codes stored in other modules
- Fault returns after clearing, often when the vehicle is warm or over rough roads
- No effect on drivability, but the comfort function is unusable
Likely causes
- Open circuit or a break in the PWM signal wire between the transmitting and receiving modules
- Signal wire shorted to ground, flattening the waveform to zero
- Transmitting module has no power, no ground, or is itself faulty and stops sending
- Poor ground on either module, distorting the waveform so the duty cycle cannot be read
- Corroded or water damaged connector on the signal line
- Electrical interference from an aftermarket accessory routed alongside the signal wire
- Blown fuse feeding the module that generates the signal
- Receiving module input circuit failure, only after the wiring is proven good
How to fix it
- Confirm the manufacturer definition and identify the transmitting and receiving modules and pins
- Scan every module in the vehicle, a fault in the sending module often explains this code on its own
- Check power, ground and fuses at the transmitting module first
- Backprobe the signal wire with an oscilloscope, or a meter with a duty cycle function, and compare with specification
- Measure the wire for continuity and for shorts to ground and to battery with both connectors off
- Perform a wiggle test on the harness while watching the signal
- Repair the wiring or connector, or replace the sending module if it produces no output with good supplies
- Clear the code, operate the function through its full range and confirm the signal stays valid
