Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Decide whether the voltage is coming from the harness or from inside the module.

What does it mean?

B2160 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Driver's MPCS Unit Lost Communication with Gauge Control Module (VSP/NE Message) .

Symptoms

  • Memory position 1 indicator stays lit no matter what is selected
  • Memory 1 button does nothing, position 1 cannot be stored or recalled
  • Other memory positions may still work normally
  • Module does not go to sleep, leading to a flat battery after the car is left standing
  • Occasional blown fuse in the memory or seat circuit
  • Code returns immediately after clearing

Likely causes

  • Output wire chafed against a permanently live conductor under the seat or in the door
  • Liquid spilled into the memory switch pack bridging the output to a supply pin
  • Terminal pushed back in the connector so it touches an adjacent battery feed
  • Memory switch with an internal short between the indicator and the supply
  • Aftermarket accessory tapped into the memory switch harness
  • Corroded connector under the seat after damp carpet or a spill
  • Module output driver failed in the shorted state
  • Damaged loom where it crosses the seat rail and flexes with every seat movement

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the manufacturer definition and the memory output pin for this vehicle
  2. Unplug the memory switch pack and measure the output pin for voltage with the key off
  3. Voltage present with everything unplugged means a short in the harness, no voltage means the module driver is at fault
  4. Inspect the loom under the seat over the full range of seat travel
  5. Open and inspect the switch pack for spilled liquid, corrosion and internal shorts
  6. Check every terminal in the connector is fully seated and locked
  7. Remove any aftermarket wiring spliced into this circuit
  8. Repair the harness or replace the switch, then confirm the indicator follows the selection and the module sleeps after lock up
