Window Passenger Front Down Switch Short to Battery

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Read and record the codes and clear them, then operate every window switch to see which action brings the code back.

What does it mean?

B2215 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: FCM Internal (Totally Integrated Power Module) .

Symptoms

  • The passenger front window drops on its own or keeps running down when the switch is released.
  • The window will not go up from the master switch, or only works from the passenger door switch.
  • One touch down operation stops working or triggers randomly.
  • Window lockout and comfort open functions no longer respond.
  • Battery drain because the door module stays awake with the input active.

Likely causes

  • Liquid spilled into the driver master window switch, leaving a conductive bridge between the down contact and the switch supply.
  • Worn or welded contacts inside the master switch that stay closed after use.
  • Chafed harness in the driver door rubber boot where the wires flex, shorting the switch signal to a powered wire.
  • Corrosion or water in the door module or switch connector.
  • Aftermarket one touch or comfort closing modules wired into the window switch circuit.
  • Internal driver or window module failure that misreads the input.
  • On some vehicles this code number is used for an internal fault in the integrated power and fuse module instead, which then needs its own testing.

How to fix it

  1. Read and record the codes and clear them, then operate every window switch to see which action brings the code back.
  2. Remove the driver master switch and look for spilled liquid, sticky residue, corroded pins and heat damage on the down contact.
  3. Unplug the master switch and check whether the code still sets; if it does the fault is in the harness or module, not the switch.
  4. Backprobe the passenger down input and confirm it reads near ground or reference level at rest and only pulls up when the switch is pressed.
  5. With the switch disconnected, measure the input wire for battery voltage from the harness side to confirm a short to power.
  6. Flex the door boot loom while watching the reading to find broken or chafed conductors, then repair the harness properly.
  7. Replace the master switch or the door module only after the wiring tests clean, and relearn the window one touch positions afterwards.
