Seat Driver Memory Position Error

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Read the module codes and check the live data for each seat position sensor while moving the seat slowly with the manual switch.

What does it mean?

B2300 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Wiper Mode Switch Input Circuit Performance .

Symptoms

  • The driver seat does not move at all when a memory button or the key fob memory is used.
  • The seat moves but stops in the wrong place or in a different position each time.
  • New memory positions cannot be stored, or the module beeps and rejects the request.
  • Easy entry and exit movement stops working while manual seat adjustment still works.
  • Mirror and column memory recall may fail at the same time if they share the module.

Likely causes

  • Seat position potentiometer signal out of its learned range because the seat was moved manually or the track hit an obstruction.
  • Broken or chafed wires in the loom under the seat, where the harness flexes every time the seat slides.
  • Loose or corroded connector under the seat, often after seat removal or a spill soaked into the carpet.
  • Low system voltage during the recall movement, so the module aborts and logs a position error.
  • Seat memory positions never programmed, or lost after a battery disconnection or module replacement.
  • Binding seat track, damaged gear or jammed motor that stops the seat before it reaches the stored position.
  • Memory seat module internal fault.

How to fix it

  1. Read the module codes and check the live data for each seat position sensor while moving the seat slowly with the manual switch.
  2. Watch for a signal that drops out, sticks or jumps at one point in the travel, which identifies the faulty potentiometer or wire.
  3. Inspect the harness under the seat: look for stretched, chafed or broken conductors at the flex point and for a connector pulled loose.
  4. Check battery voltage and the module supply and ground while the seat is moving, since voltage drop during recall sets position errors.
  5. Move the seat through its full travel manually to confirm the track is free and the motors are not binding, and clear any obstruction under the seat.
  6. Repair damaged wiring and connectors, then reprogram the memory positions following the vehicle procedure.
  7. Replace the position sensor, motor assembly or memory module only when the wiring and supply have been proven good.
