What does it mean?
B2402 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Steering Lock Unit communication error (System ID) .
Symptoms
- CD playback stops and the display shows a temperature or protection message
- The changer works again after the vehicle cools but fails again after a period of use
- Discs will not eject while the unit is in shutdown
- Audio from radio and other sources continues to work normally
- The unit is noticeably hot to the touch
Likely causes
- Blocked or obstructed ventilation around the changer, often from luggage or trim packed against it
- Changer mounted in a hot location such as under a seat or in a rear quarter with poor airflow
- Internal drive fault that keeps the mechanism working continuously and generating heat
- Failed thermal sensor inside the changer reporting a false over temperature
- Unstable or high supply voltage stressing the changer power stage
- Internal amplifier fault dissipating excess heat
- Prolonged exposure to very high cabin temperatures in hot climates
How to fix it
- Let the unit cool completely and see whether operation returns, which confirms a thermal event rather than a hard failure
- Check the mounting location for blocked vents and for trim, carpet or luggage restricting airflow
- Confirm the supply voltage at the changer is within specification and stable with the engine running
- Inspect the changer ground for corrosion, since a poor ground raises internal dissipation
- Listen for a mechanism that keeps hunting or retrying, which points to an internal drive fault rather than ambient heat
- Clear the code and monitor whether it returns under normal use before condemning the unit
- Replace the changer if it repeatedly shuts down with correct supply, ground and ventilation
