What does it mean?

B2406 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Steering Unit Communication. (PTC operate) .

Symptoms

  • The CD source reports an error, will not load a disc or will not eject one
  • The head unit resets itself or freezes while other sources still work
  • Mechanical noise comes from the slot when a disc is inserted
  • An internal error message is shown on the display
  • Radio and auxiliary inputs work normally while only the disc section is dead

Likely causes

  • Mechanical failure of the disc loading mechanism inside the head unit
  • Dirty or worn laser pickup that can no longer track a disc
  • Disc jammed in the transport or a second disc inserted on top of the first
  • Internal board failure, often following a supply spike or moisture exposure
  • Corrupted head unit software after an interrupted power supply
  • Internal ribbon connections damaged by vibration
  • Foreign object pushed into the disc slot

How to fix it

  1. Test with a known good original disc to rule out a marked or copied disc
  2. Carry out the forced eject or reset routine specified for this unit
  3. Check the slot for a second disc or a foreign object
  4. Verify the constant and switched supplies plus the ground at the head unit connector, including the relevant fuses
  5. Reset the unit by removing power for a short period, then retest
  6. Update or reload the head unit software where the manufacturer supports it
  7. Replace or repair the head unit once the mechanism or main board is confirmed at fault, and enter any security code afterwards
