What does it mean?
C1109 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Battery Voltage Abnormal to ABS Actuator .
Symptoms
- ABS and stability control lamps come on, often on a cold start
- ABS does not operate during hard braking
- Warning lamps clear themselves after the engine has run for a while
- Other modules record supply voltage faults at the same time
- Slow cranking or dim lighting alongside the ABS warning
- Fault reappears after the vehicle stands unused for a few days
Likely causes
- Weak, discharged or failing battery that sags when the actuator loads the circuit
- Charging system out of range, either undercharging or overcharging
- Corroded high current terminal or nut at the hydraulic unit power stud
- Degraded fusible link or main fuse with high resistance
- Poor ground for the actuator, a rusty body stud or a broken ground strap
- Voltage drop through an old, oxidised harness connector near the fuse box
- Loose battery clamp that moves under vibration
How to fix it
- Load test the battery and measure charging voltage at idle and under load
- Measure voltage at the hydraulic unit power connector with the key on and during a pump command
- Perform voltage drop tests on both the feed and the ground of the actuator
- Clean and torque the power stud, the fusible link connections and the ground bolt
- Inspect the connector for corrosion, spread terminals and moisture
- Repair or replace the affected cable, fusible link or ground strap
- Recheck the actuator operation with the scan tool once supply voltage is within range
