What does it mean?
C1244 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: ABS System Failure .
Symptoms
- ABS lamp on, usually with the stability and brake warning lamps
- Anti lock braking, traction control and stability control all unavailable
- Normal hydraulic braking retained, but wheels can lock on wet or loose surfaces
- No hydraulic unit self test noise when the vehicle is started
- Scan tool may struggle to communicate with the module
- Code returns immediately after clearing
Likely causes
- Weak battery, poor connections at the battery terminals or a charging fault
- Blown ABS fuse or a failed power supply relay
- Corroded ABS module connector, or water that has reached the module housing
- Corroded or loose ABS ground point
- Internal fault in the hydraulic control unit, such as a solenoid valve coil or the pump circuit
- Several other sensor or circuit faults stored together, which the module summarises as a system failure
- Module not coded or configured after replacement
How to fix it
- Test the battery under load and measure charging voltage before anything else
- Check the ABS fuses and supply relay, and confirm power reaches the module
- Clean and retorque the ABS ground point, then voltage drop test power and ground with the system awake
- Read every stored code in the module and work through the specific ones first
- Inspect the module connector for water, corrosion and spread terminals
- Run the pump and valve activation tests with the scan tool and listen for correct operation
- Repair or replace the hydraulic control unit or module as the final step, then code it and bleed the system as specified
