What does it mean?
P1432 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Secondary Fuel Level Signal Too Low .
Symptoms
- MIL on with a fuel gauge that reads empty or far lower than reality
- Low fuel warning light stays on even after refuelling
- Distance to empty calculation is wrong or unavailable
- EVAP leak monitors do not run because the fuel level condition is never met
- No noticeable change in engine performance
Likely causes
- Short to ground in the secondary level sender signal wire
- Sender resistive track worn through, giving almost zero resistance at all positions
- Corroded connector at the tank flange bridging the signal pin to ground
- Water intrusion into the harness connector under the rear of the vehicle
- Float arm bent or detached so the sender rests at its lowest stop
- Internal open in the sender reference circuit, which some systems report as a low signal
- Damaged wiring where the harness passes the fuel tank straps or a body seam
How to fix it
- Compare the secondary sender reading against the primary sender in live data right after a full refuel
- Disconnect the sender connector and measure the signal wire to ground; near zero resistance confirms a short
- With the sender disconnected, check whether the reported value moves to the high end, which points at the sender rather than the wiring
- Inspect the flange connector for water, corrosion and terminal pushback, and dry it before retesting
- Measure the sender resistance directly across its terminals while sweeping the float through its travel
- Trace the harness along the tank and rear underbody for chafing against straps and brackets
- Repair the shorted wire or replace the sender unit, then verify the gauge tracks correctly through a tank of fuel
