What does it mean?
P1522 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Intake Camshaft Control (Bank 2) Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on with a noticeable loss of mid-range pull
- Rough or shaky idle, sometimes only when the engine is hot
- Rattling noise from the front of the engine on start-up
- Hesitation when accelerating from low speed
- Higher fuel consumption
- Engine may feel uneven between the two banks under light load
Likely causes
- Low oil level or oil that is overdue, so the phaser cannot be supplied properly
- Blocked filter screen in the bank 2 intake camshaft oil control valve
- Failed or sticking oil control valve for bank 2
- Worn camshaft phaser or a failed locking pin inside it
- Stretched timing chain or a weak tensioner on that bank, shifting the cam angle
- Damaged wiring or a corroded connector at the bank 2 solenoid
- Camshaft or crankshaft position sensor signal problems affecting the correlation calculation
How to fix it
- Check the oil level and condition and confirm the correct viscosity, changing the oil and filter if it is overdue
- Read the target and actual camshaft angle for bank 2 in live data and compare it with bank 1
- Command the bank 2 oil control valve with a scan tool and watch whether the cam angle responds
- Remove the oil control valve and clean or replace its filter screen if it is blocked with debris
- Measure the solenoid resistance and check its wiring and connector for damage
- Verify camshaft to crankshaft correlation and inspect chain timing and the tensioner if the deviation stays
- Replace the oil control valve first, and the phaser only when the hydraulic side has been proven
