What does it mean?
P1552 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 2 Injector Circuit Range/Performance .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on, often with a companion cylinder 2 misfire code
- Rough idle and a noticeable misfire, particularly when the engine is cold
- Hesitation and a flat spot when accelerating from low rpm
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Raised fuel consumption and a fuel smell from the exhaust
- Vibration through the body at idle that smooths out at higher rpm
Likely causes
- Injector coil resistance out of specification, either drifting high or partially shorted
- Oil or coolant intrusion into the injector connector, which corrodes the terminals
- Chafed injector harness rubbing against the cylinder head, intake or a bracket
- Poor crimp or a broken wire inside the injector loom, common after previous engine work
- Clogged or leaking injector nozzle that upsets the electrical feedback the module monitors
- On common rail diesels, a missing or wrong injector calibration code after replacement
- Damaged injector driver channel inside the PCM
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame and check whether misfire counters are also rising on cylinder 2
- Check the injector pulse with a test light or an oscilloscope at the connector while the engine cranks
- Measure the injector coil resistance and compare it with the other injectors on the same engine
- Swap the suspect injector with one from another cylinder and see whether the fault follows the part
- Inspect the harness around cylinder 2 for chafing, and check the connector for oil and corrosion
- Clean or replace the injector, and enter the calibration code where the system requires one
- Repair any damaged wiring, clear the code and verify smooth injector balance values on a road test
