What does it mean?
P1554 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cruise Control Feedback Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Cruise control refuses to set, or cancels itself a few seconds after being engaged
- Set speed surges up and down or slowly bleeds away
- Cruise indicator flashes and the system locks out until the ignition is cycled
- Check engine light on with the fault stored
- Throttle response is otherwise normal under driver control
Likely causes
- Worn potentiometer track inside the cruise servo, so the feedback voltage becomes noisy or drops out
- Open, shorted or high resistance feedback wire between the servo and the control module
- Corroded connector at the servo, especially on units mounted low in the engine bay
- Harness chafing where it crosses a moving part, causing an intermittent break as the engine rocks
- Poor ground or a lost reference voltage feeding the feedback sensor
- Stretched or seized throttle actuating cable, so the actuator position never matches the request
- Failed cruise control module input stage
How to fix it
- Check the simple enable inputs first: brake switch, clutch switch and vehicle speed signal
- Inspect and reseat the servo connector, checking for corrosion, moisture and pushed-back terminals
- Backprobe the feedback wire and watch the voltage sweep smoothly while the actuator is moved through its travel
- Look for flat spots or sudden jumps in the feedback voltage, which indicate a worn potentiometer
- Verify continuity and check for shorts to ground and to battery voltage on the feedback line
- Check the throttle cable adjustment and the free movement of the actuator linkage
- Replace the servo assembly when the feedback signal is proven faulty, and only then consider the module
