What does it mean?
P1570 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Variable Timing Control System Circuit High Input .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on and the fault repeating during acceleration
- Loss of power at higher rpm because the camshaft stays at its base timing
- Idle quality may be normal while mid range and top end performance suffer
- Higher fuel consumption on a mixed driving cycle
- Ticking or rattle from the cam phaser at start-up on some engines
- Engine may enter a reduced performance mode on certain vehicles
Likely causes
- Open circuit in the oil control valve winding or in its control wire
- Control wire shorted to battery voltage where the harness has rubbed through
- Solenoid connector not fully latched, or a terminal pushed out of the housing
- Corrosion or oil in the connector creating high resistance on the control side
- Poor ground for the solenoid circuit, which raises the measured voltage
- Failed oil control valve that has gone open internally after heat cycling
- Faulty driver output inside the PCM
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame and note the rpm and load at which the fault set, then try to reproduce it
- Inspect the solenoid connector for latching, oil contamination and backed-out terminals
- Measure the winding resistance of the oil control valve; an open reading confirms a failed solenoid
- Check the control wire for continuity to the module and for a short to battery voltage
- Actuate the solenoid with a scan tool and confirm that camshaft position responds
- Verify oil level, oil pressure and the cleanliness of the valve screen before condemning the phaser
- Replace the solenoid or repair the wiring, then clear the code and verify cam timing follows command on a road test
