What does it mean?
P1575 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Extended Travel Brake Switch Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Check engine light on with the fault stored
- Cruise control will not engage, or does not cancel properly when the pedal is pressed hard
- Shift interlock or brake related warning messages appear on some vehicles
- Brake pedal may feel longer than normal if the underlying cause is hydraulic
- Normal braking is otherwise unaffected, so the fault often goes unnoticed until scanned
Likely causes
- Switch out of adjustment after pedal or booster replacement
- Worn or sticking contacts inside the extended travel switch
- Corroded connector or a broken wire in the pedal box area
- Excessive brake pedal travel caused by air in the hydraulic system or worn rear brake adjustment
- Pedal bracket flexed or the switch bracket bent by heavy pedal use
- Signal wire shorted to ground or open along its route to the module
- Faulty module input circuit
How to fix it
- Measure brake pedal free play and total travel and compare with the specification
- Watch the extended travel switch state on the scan tool through the full pedal stroke
- Inspect the switch and its bracket for correct alignment and secure mounting
- Measure switch continuity in both the released and applied positions
- Check the connector and wiring for corrosion, chafing and continuity back to the module
- Bleed the brake system and check rear brake adjustment if pedal travel is genuinely excessive
- Adjust or replace the switch, clear the code and confirm that the state changes correctly on a road test
