What does it mean?
P1630 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Acceleration Pedal Position Sensor 1 Signal Too Low .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a reduced power warning
- Engine limited to idle or a low rpm ceiling, pedal barely responding
- Sudden loss of power while driving that clears after switching off and restarting
- Hesitation or a flat spot at part throttle
- Cruise control disabled
- Idle may be unstable or the engine may stall when coming to a stop
Likely causes
- Open circuit or short to ground on the sensor 1 signal wire
- Loss of the 5 V reference feeding the pedal sensor
- Corroded, wet or spread terminals in the accelerator pedal connector, often after water gets into the footwell
- Worn sensor track inside the pedal module producing a dead spot near rest position
- Pedal assembly damaged, or the pedal held by a floor mat or trapped object
- Harness chafed where it passes through the bulkhead or runs under the carpet
- Module input circuit fault, the least likely cause
How to fix it
- Graph both pedal sensor voltages in live data while pressing the pedal slowly from rest to full travel; sensor 1 should rise smoothly with no dropout
- Wiggle the pedal connector and harness while watching the signal for glitches
- Measure the 5 V reference and the sensor ground at the pedal connector
- With the connectors unplugged, check the signal wire for continuity and for a short to ground
- Look for water under the carpet and in the footwell; moisture in this connector is a common cause
- Replace the accelerator pedal assembly if the track has a dead spot, since the sensors are rarely serviced separately
- Carry out any required pedal learn procedure and confirm full smooth travel in live data
