What does it mean?
P1762 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Shift Solenoid C Short to Power .
Symptoms
- Solenoid stays applied, so the transmission runs in the wrong gear
- Harsh engagement, missing gears or an unexpected ratio at a given speed
- Limp mode locking the transmission in one gear
- MIL (check engine lamp) on with a transmission warning lamp
- Rising fluid temperature and higher fuel consumption
- Blown transmission fuse in severe cases
Likely causes
- Chafed internal harness touching a powered wire or terminal inside the transmission
- Solenoid winding shorted internally to the supply side of the pack
- Damaged case connector where two pins bridge together through fluid or corrosion
- Melted or crushed harness insulation near the exhaust or a mounting bracket
- Incorrect solenoid or a wrongly wired repair connector fitted previously
- Water or ATF inside the external connector creating a path from the feed circuit
- Module output driver failed in the shorted state, confirmed after wiring checks
How to fix it
- Unplug the solenoid and check whether battery voltage is present on the drive wire with the ignition on
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance and its insulation to the transmission case
- Compare all solenoid readings at the case connector to find the one that is different
- Inspect the case connector for fluid, corrosion and pin to pin bridging
- Remove the pan and examine the internal harness routing for chafe and heat damage
- Repair or replace the internal harness and solenoid, sealing the case connector properly
- Retest for voltage on the circuit after repair, and only then consider the control module
