What does it mean?

P1763 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Shift Solenoid C Short to Ground .

Symptoms

  • Transmission locked in one gear with limp mode active
  • Harsh engagement and a wrong ratio for the road speed
  • MIL (check engine lamp) on with a transmission warning lamp
  • Repeated transmission fuse failures
  • Loss of drive or a serious loss of acceleration when the fault is active
  • Fluid overheating quickly during normal driving

Likely causes

  • Internal harness rubbed through against the valve body, pan rail or case
  • Solenoid winding shorted to the transmission case internally
  • ATF and metal debris inside the case connector creating a path to ground
  • Crushed or pinched wiring after a previous transmission repair
  • Damaged external harness where it passes a bracket or exhaust heat shield
  • Wrong solenoid fitted with a much lower resistance than specified
  • Module output driver shorted to ground, confirmed only after wiring checks

How to fix it

  1. Check the transmission fuse and note whether it blows again when the vehicle is driven
  2. Unplug the solenoid at the case connector and measure resistance from the drive terminal to ground
  3. Measure the solenoid winding resistance and its insulation to the case
  4. Compare all solenoid readings at once to identify the shorted circuit
  5. Inspect the case connector for fluid, metal debris and corrosion between pins and the shell
  6. Drop the pan and follow the internal harness, checking every clip and pass-through for rub-through
  7. Repair or replace the internal harness and solenoid, then confirm the circuit is clear of ground before road testing
