What does it mean?
P1875 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: 4WD Low Switch Circuit Electrical .
Symptoms
- Malfunction indicator lamp and/or a 4WD warning lamp on the dash
- Low range will not engage, or the low range indicator stays lit in high range
- Transfer case stays in two-wheel drive or shifts unexpectedly
- Transmission shift strategy is wrong because the module misreads the range
- Speedometer or ABS behaviour can change on some vehicles
- Fault often appears after driving in wet, snowy or muddy conditions
Likely causes
- Failed low range switch, worn contacts or a switch stuck in one state
- Corroded connector at the transfer case — this area sees water, mud and road salt
- Chafed or broken underbody harness where it runs along the frame
- Short to ground or to battery in the switch circuit
- Transfer case shift motor or encoder not reaching the low range position
- Poor ground for the switch circuit causing an ambiguous signal
- Faulty input circuit in the transfer case control module or PCM
How to fix it
- Read codes from both the powertrain and transfer case modules
- Watch the low range switch state in live data while shifting the transfer case through its positions
- Disconnect the transfer case connector and inspect it for water, mud and corroded terminals
- Measure switch continuity in and out of low range at the switch itself
- Check the circuit at the module connector for short to ground and for battery voltage
- Wiggle-test the underbody harness along the frame while monitoring the switch state
- Repair the harness or connector, replace the switch if the contacts are worn, and verify the transfer case actually reaches low range mechanically
