Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Check the wiring that flexes with the door before considering the module.

  • 44Sequence number

What does it mean?

U1144 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Lost Communication With Power Sliding Door Module-Right .

Symptoms

  • Right sliding door dead to the switch, key fob and inside handle, working only by hand
  • Door stopping halfway, reopening by itself, or closing very slowly
  • Chime or dash message stating that the power sliding door is not available
  • Door ajar indication that does not clear
  • Battery drain caused by the door module or lamps staying awake
  • Scan tool cannot reach the right sliding door module

Likely causes

  • Fatigued conductors in the flexible sliding door harness on the right side, broken by repeated bending
  • Water and corrosion in the door or pillar connector, since the right side is often the one used most in traffic
  • Blown fuse, poor supply voltage or a bad ground at the right sliding door module
  • Damaged bus wiring between the door module and the rest of the body network
  • Drive motor or clutch drawing excessive current, so the module stops responding
  • Track, rollers or latch mechanism binding after an impact or debris in the rail
  • Failure of the sliding door control module itself

How to fix it

  1. Watch module communication with the scan tool while the door is opened and closed slowly
  2. Inspect and flex-test every wire in the sliding door loom at the hinge and track transition point
  3. Check the door and pillar connectors for corrosion, moisture and terminal damage, and dry and repair as required
  4. Verify the fuse, battery feed and ground at the module using a loaded voltage drop test
  5. Test bus continuity from the module back to the body control module
  6. Inspect the track, rollers, drive cable and latch, cleaning and lubricating them so the motor is not overloaded
  7. Replace the module only after wiring and mechanics are proven good, then perform the door relearn procedure
