Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Disconnect the battery and wait the specified time for the restraint capacitors to discharge before touching any connector.

  • 13Sequence number

What does it mean?

U1213 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Lost Communication With Left Door Track Impact Acceleration Sensor .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp on permanently
  • Left side airbag and curtain disabled, and pretensioners may be inhibited too
  • Warning message about the restraint system on the display
  • The fault reappears immediately after clearing
  • Chime sounds together with the warning lamp on some vehicles
  • Vehicle fails a technical inspection with the airbag lamp lit

Likely causes

  • Loose, wet or corroded connector at the left sill or B-pillar sensor
  • Wiring damaged under the sill trim or scuff plate, often after interior or audio work
  • Failed left side impact sensor with an internal open or short
  • Water on the floor pan from a blocked drain or a torn door membrane reaching the sensor
  • Restraint control module not powering the sensor line, or an internal module fault
  • Accident damage or a deployment repair that was never fully completed
  • Aftermarket alarm or speaker wiring routed through the sill and damaging the sensor circuit

How to fix it

  1. Read the restraint module and note whether the fault is current or historical
  2. Remove the sill trim and inspect the sensor, bracket and connector for moisture and corrosion
  3. Confirm the connector is fully latched and its terminal lock is seated
  4. Test the sensor circuit back to the restraint module for open circuit and short to ground
  5. Look for water ingress in the footwell and fix the leak before repairing the circuit
  6. Check that the sensor is bolted to the body at the specified torque; a loose sensor upsets the signal
  7. Replace the impact sensor if the wiring is good; the restraint module is the last step
